Anoka County Participates in Food Waste Prevention Week April 1-7
Anoka County is proud to participate in Food Waste Prevention Week April 1-7, joining more than 700 counties, cities, schools, and non-profits across the country. Food Waste Prevention Week is an online and in-person awareness campaign to inspire cultural changes that reduce food waste at home, work, and in our communities.
The county is providing useful tips and tools anyone can use at home or work to reduce food waste and help people save money.
Up to 38 percent of all food produced in the United States goes uneaten, causing significant economic, environmental, and social repercussions. Ending food loss and waste requires purposeful action.
Why does reducing wasted food matter?
“Anoka County is committed to reducing food waste because it is the most efficient and cost-effective strategy to manage waste,” said Jonelle Hubbard, director of Anoka County’s Public Health and Environmental Services Department. Wasted food is a problem we can solve. Each community member has the potential to personally affect how much food goes unused. Therefore, Anoka County supports Food Waste Prevention Week and will take actions to reduce food waste in the Anoka County community.”
